Oven Barbecued Chicken

Oven baked barbecued chicken in homemade barbecue sauce. Chicken is sauteed on the stove top until brown and transferred to baking dish. Homemade barbecue sauce tops chicken. Oven baked 1 hour.
Ingredients -
Vegetable Oil
3 to 4 pounds Chicken Thighs, Legs and Breasts
1/3 cup chopped Onion
3 tablespoons Butter or Margarine
3/4 cup Ketchup
1/3 cup Vinegar
3 tablespoons Brown Sugar
½ cup Water
2 teaspoons Prepared Mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/8 teaspoon Pepper
 
Preparation:

1. Add couple tablespoons vegetable oil to large skillet. Heat over medium heat.

2. Fry chicken, several pieces at a time, until browned.

3. Remove chicken from skillet, drain and place in large ceramic or glass baking dish.

4. In medium saucepan, saute onion in butter or margarine until soft.

5. Add ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, water, prepared mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.

6. Simmer sauce 15 minutes.

7. Preheat oven to 350 F.

8. Pour sauce over chicken. Bake 1 hour.

 



Cooking Tip
Chicken Thighs, Legs and Breasts
Chicken with the skin on will result in best results. Chicken retains juices better. Remove skin after cooking, if desired.

Direct cooking over coals is best for searing foods, before moving away from high heat, and for cooking vegetables, kabobs, fish fillets, hamburgers, and thin cuts of meat.
